SOLD--Vintage Mid-Century Shell Brooch Sterling, Rafael Dominguez, Taxco c. 1950
THIS PIECE HAS BEEN SOLD.
A simply gorgeous abstract shell brooch by Taxco artist Rafael Dominguez circa 1950. Dominguez was a student of William Spratling and had his own well-known Taxco studio in the mid-century period. He was known for his heavy pieces and this brooch fits the bill, so you don't want to wear it on a light piece of fabric. It is exceptional in its design and has a Deco influence, so it is possibly a bit earlier than the 1950's.
Measures 1.5 x 1.5".
Stamped "980" for silver content (higher than sterling) and "RD" maker's mark for Dominguez. Also stamped "TAXCO".
Weighs 18.1 grams.
