This is a necklace by famed Taxco designer William Spratling circa 1940's-50's.  This design is called caviar, with interlocking individual links with domed ends.  It's heavy, finely made as all Spratling pieces are, and a total collector's item!

William Spratling's influence on MidCentury Mexican design cannot be understated.  He was born in upstate New York but moved to the Taxco region in the 1930's to revive the local silver industry.  His early designs were based on pre-Columbian and traditional motifs and he employed talented local creators to design for his workshop.   His pieces, particularly the early ones, are very rare and highly collectible!

Measures 15" length.  Measures 5/8" width.

Stamped "SPRATLING MADE IN MEXICO" and "STERLING" with maker's mark for William Spratling.

Weighs 116 grams.

In excellent condition with heavy patina.
