Huge Antique Elements Brooch Sterling c. 1890
This is a really interesting, gorgeous and over-the-top brooch made of late Victorian elements that were made in the late 19th Century. And it is huge! It is really grand and gothic, I love it. There is an artist's name etched on the back but I can't quite read it -- Heatherstone? Featherstone? I'm not sure, but if you know who this artist is please get in touch, I would love to know! We also had a pair of earrings put together by the same artist that were absolutely crazy and they sold right away. The brooch hasn't been on display yet, so this is its debut!
Many of you know that I am a total purist when it comes to reworking pieces--I really don't like dismantling pieces to rework them or take stones out because I feel that they are historical artifacts and so, so many pieces get melted now that there are fewer and fewer out there. But there are certain antique items like insanely beautiful belt buckles and shoe buckles and purse handles and things that will never, ever be used again. And loads of these items sit in drawers, or get melted, when they could be turned into crazy art pieces like this one! So in this case I am all for it.
Measures 3.25 x 2.25".
Stamped "STERLING" and all elements tested. Signed by artist.
