WOW, what a ring! I look at rings pretty much all day, every day and I can say that I have never seen a ring quite this striking before--it is glorious! This is a very large banded onyx carved intaglio of a horse's head, finely carved and set in 14k gold. The artist who carved this piece used the bands to give the intaglio a kind of reverse silhouette. As far as circa date, it is tricky and it could be Victorian based on the setting and the use of the banded onyx, but I think it is more likely Deco era as there is very little wear for such a large piece. Wear this ring and have everyone grab your hand to take a closer look, it is that good!
This ring is currently a size 7.25 and can be resized as needed. The face of the ring measures 1.5" in length and 7/8" wide. The ring weighs in at a solid 10 grams. Stamped "14K" and acid-tested. There are a few light scratches to the surface of the onyx, which is typical of such a large older piece, but no chips to the edges or the intaglio.
