Description

These antique earrings have elements from two different periods (and centuries!)--Georgian and Victorian.  Set in late 19th Century mountings of platinum and 14k yellow gold are two 18th Century closed foil-backed rose cut diamonds in their original silver settings.  The diamonds, still in great condition considering their age, have a warm, candlelight-like hue to them which is due both to their natural color and to the foil-backing.  Set in the top of the mounting are also two additional tiny rose cuts, also in their original Georgian silver settings!  I believe the reworking of these earrings to have been done quite a while ago, probably contemporary with the mountings in the late Victorian period.  The ornate crown design of the prongs works beautifully with the old rose cuts and gives these earrings that great Victorian regal look!  These look spectacular on and are secure and comfortable to wear.

**A note about closed foil-back stones:  These earrings are safe to wear and enjoy daily!  But they should never be worn in the shower, swimming or any activity where they might be submerged due to the foil-back settings.

Measure 9/16 x 3/8" (13mm x 9.7mm).

Rose cuts measure approximately 7mm.  Because of the closed backing and the shallow depth of rose cuts it is very difficult to estimate the weight of these stones, as well as to grade color or clarity.  The color as it appears in the setting would be considered a fancy light yellowish Brown, but again this could be due to the foil too so that is just a color reference and not a grade.

Not stamped or signed but tested for metal content.

Settings in great condition, all prongs secure and are fully soldered onto Georgian element.

Lever backs in good working condition and close tightly.
