SOLD—Retro Moonstone and Ruby Ring 14k c. 1940
THIS PIECE HAS BEEN SOLD.
This luminescent ring was made circa 1940's and holds an oval cabochon moonstone set in frame of eighteen natural rubies, set in 14k rose gold. The moonstone is just lovely, with great height and transparency, and glowing adularescence with hints of blue. It also has a secret--it is a cat's eye moonstone! In diffuse light the moonstone has the sheen we've all come to know and love, but in direct light boom! You get the glow AND bright band of light running the length of the stone. It's like magic, this is a magic ring.
The rubies are sparkly and bright and are on the pinker side, they could almost be pink sapphires but I'm still going to classify them as rubies (sapphire and ruby are the same mineral: corundum). It's possible that this ring is older than 1940's, as you see the same combination and setting around the turn of the century, but I'm going with the Retro Old Hollywood period on this one. If you love moonstone, and particularly if you love the moonstone and ruby pairing--which I do!--this ring does not disappoint! It is prettier and more magical in person, so come see it!
