Victorian Foil-Backed Citrine Pendeloque Day/Night Earrings 22k c. 1850
Victorian Foil-Backed Citrine Pendeloque Day/Night Earrings 22k c. 1850
These earrings are beyond exquisite, BEYOND. I encourage you to zoom way in on the pics and look at the absolutely incredible metal work on these beauties, it is phenomenal. Made circa 1850, very possibly earlier, these earrings are done in the pendeloque style popularized in the mid-1700's. Bezel set foil-backed citrines sit atop hand sawn scrolling metalwork that is full of fine detail. And as if things couldn't get any better, these are also day/night! And they're not just day/night with two options, there are THREE ways to wear these. See the pics--you can wear with the big drop, with just the top, or unhook the middle and attach to the top. It is too good!! These earrings were purchased many decades ago by collector who has one of the keenest eyes and best collections I have ever seen, with many Italian and Iberian earrings in her group. A truly breathtaking and rare museum-level pair of antique earrings!
Measure 2.25 x 1.25" (width is widest area of the drop).
Not stamped or signed but tested for metal content.
Weigh 8.4 grams each (16.8 grams total)
Condition is excellent! Citrines are dark, partly because the foil has darkened and partly due to their smoky color. One citrine has a chip to the point.
