SOLD--Victorian Amethyst Locket Earrings 18k c. 1870

A rare pair of earrings from the Victorian era circa 1870, featuring glowing amethyst cabochons set in an 18k yellow gold twisted frame with festoon like chain drops and tassels.  The surprising part is that these earrings are lockets--both of them--and have a crystal compartment in the back, most likely meant for hair but it doesn't appear that these ever contained any and the original silk is still intact.  Beautiful, wearable and unusual!

Not stamped or signed but tested for metal content.

Measures 1 7/8" length.
