Huge Vintage Shell Cameo 14k c. 1940
Huge Vintage Shell Cameo 14k c. 1940
The sheer size of this amazing vintage cameo is enough to make it a special piece, but the carving, the color and the frame are all so beautifully done that it is instantly memorable. Made circa 1940, the artist has carved what appears to be the Three Graces dancing, but I'm not sure of the other characters and I don't like to guess. If anyone has an idea of what this cameo depicts please feel free to write to or chat with me! The artist has used the layers of the shell to perfection and it gives the piece a look as if the figures are lit by candlelight. The frame is comprised of closely packed loops of 14k rosier yellow gold. It is GORGEOUS in person and if you like it, come see it!
Measures 2 7/8 x 2 1/4".
Not stamped or signed but tested for metal content.
Weighs 36 grams.
In excellent vintage condition, was very well taken care of. In the photos the frame may appear wavy at time, this is because it is following the natural surface of the shell.
