SOLD--Georgian Diamond Giardinetti Ring Silver/15k c. 1800
THIS PIECE HAS BEEN SOLD.
Giardinetti is such a sweet word--it means "little gardens" and is the perfect way to describe this style of flowery, foliate ring that was popular in the 18th Century. It is like you're wearing a tiny bouquet on your finger! This beautiful giardinetti ring dates to the turn of the century of the Georgian era circa 1800-1820. What a stunner it is too, with old cut foil-backed diamonds finely set in silver over 15k on every inch of petal and leaf. It has quite a presence, measuring just a touch over 3/4" north to south and a nice heft at 6.5 grams. The floral design is detailed and cleanly done, and of course you've got that great antique foil-back sparkle! A rare and romantic ring for the collector, to mark a special occasion with a historical jewel or for a very careful bride-to-be!
Currently a size 6 and can be resized by a very skilled jeweler. No hallmarks or metal marks, but tested for metal content. In overall very good condition for its age, there is some minor cracking in one area of the shoulder that does not affect stability.
A note on Georgian jewelry: Care needs to be taken when wearing a ring with foil-backed settings. We strongly encourage you to wear the ring only occasionally and when you have no activities planned where the ring could incur impact (i.e. gardening, sports, cooking, etc.) Additionally it is not advisable to get the ring wet or wear it stacked next to other rings. That being said, a little care will help these amazing treasures last into the next era!
