So this seriously glamorous amethyst, diamond and cobalt blue enamel ring from the 1940's has many things going for it.  First the amethyst--it is cut perfectly and is the most beautiful violet color.  It is much, much better and more lively than the pictures show.  Then we have the size--the design of this ring is such that when you put it on, all you see is RING!  Don't try to pair this ring with a bunch of stacks, it cannot be done--this piece must be the center of attention!  But the very best and certainly most interesting thing to know about this ring is that it belonged to an amazing woman named Ruth Mitchell.  Don't know who she is?  I didn't either and I am now all the richer for knowing--you can learn more about her here:

What a life!!  It's hard to write my usual exclamation point-filled statements after that, her story speaks for itself.  Another interesting fact about Ruth that was not included in the article is that one of the many things she did after the war was design jewelry.  My client brought in a few of her pieces to show me and they were really great, very modernist.  I've included a photo of her in her studio from Life Magazine in 1947 and the caption is "Ruth Mitchell has opened a gemstone factory showing gems to a group of men".  I do love that caption because that is exactly what is happening and it is clear from her expression that the group of men had better pay attention.  This ring was inherited by my client's late husband after Ruth Mitchell's death in 1969, who then gifted it to her.  Additionally my client personally knew Ruth Mitchell.  This ring will come with a statement of provenance.

Currently this ring is a size 7 and can be resized carefully.  Stamped "14k" and tested.  The natural amethyst weighs approximately 6.00ct and has very minor scratching to the table visible under magnification.  There are eighteen round brilliant cut diamonds weighing approximately .90ctw with G-H Color and VS1-2 Clarity.  The face of the ring measures 7/8" in length.  The ring stands just a tad under 1/2" from the finger when worn--it is tall!  Enamel is very intact.
