THIS PIECE HAS BEEN SOLD.

This unique antique ring dates from the late Georgian/early Victorian period circa 1840 and has a frame of pearls surrounding a butterfly wing under glass in 14k yellow gold.  Usually we see butterfly wing jewelry in late 19th and early 20th century pieces, but I have seen a rare few Georgian pieces.  Butterfly wing is exactly what you think it is--it is a butterfly's wing, generally from the Morpho butterfly, placed under crystal or glass and sealed to prevent moisture from intruding and destroying the wing over time.  It has a beautiful blue/violet iridescent glow and looks like nothing else.  This ring is in the case at the store and all day long people ask what that gem is!  This ring is a special and rare antique that you'll enjoy wearing and owning--and would be a great addition to any Georgian collection!

Currently size 5 and can be resized as needed.  One resizing provided, please allow one week.

Not stamped or signed but tested for metal content.

Face of ring measures 13.5mm north to south, 16.5mm east to west.  Stands 3.5mm from the finger when worn.

All pearls intact and appear original.  Glass in good condition with very minor fleabites.  Butterfly wing mostly intact, some areas of loss but overall still very blue and bright.  Crack to the gallery, visible in one photo on the hand.  Evidence of previous resizing which will be removed should we resize this ring for you.
