Mid-Century Modernist Pomegranate Pendant Silver c. 1960
This charming pendant makes me smile every time I see it in the case! Entirely handmade and utterly delightful, this sterling silver pendant was made in the modernist period of the late 1950's to early 1960's. It was made in an interesting way--when I tested it for metal content I found that it was heavy silver plate over a layer of copper, with a solid silver base under that. Studio pieces of this era were often constructed with new or experimental techniques! This pendant measures 1 7/8 x 1 1/2" and the length includes the bail. It is signed, but it isn't a mark I recognize. It is the same design on both sides and both are depicted in the photos. Comes on a 20" sterling silver chain but has a very large patterned bail that can accommodate a much heavier chain. Does this funky pomegranate needs to part of your collection?
